Main Street has a rich history deeply rooted in the heart of the Upper Alton community from the time of the well-known circuit raider Peter Cartwright until our post-pandemic days.
The Methodism began in the Alton area in 1817. Since its foundation, the Methodist Church has been hosted by three different buildings, our current facilities were completed on April 29, 1986.
While our historical legacy is relevant, and we are so proud of having in our former membership people like Robert P. Wadlow “The Alton Giant”. With programs like providing free apples from our Community Orchard and providing free furniture and household goods to people experiencing emergencies, we are working together to revitalize the importance of a strong spiritual foundation for all.
